The Word

About a year and a half ago, I began formally teaching my oldest to read. When we began, I explained to her that reading was wonderful, and the main reason that I wanted for her to learn to read would be so that she could read the very words of God for herself. Well...
last week we opened a precious copy of the Young Reader's Bible, given to my grandparents by my great grandmother many years ago when their family was young. We opened to Genesis, and she read. As I reminded her that this was our whole goal in learning how to read, her pretty green eyes shone with pride.
Wow - I am so thankful that I was the one who got to see that. I just can't imagine letting someone else get those precious moments with my daughter.

  1. You've captured, in such an eloquent manner, why parenthood can be such a magical, cherished journey. It's moments like this that validate why we decided to have them in the first place.

Such a world we have created. How blessed we are.

Thank you for sharing this, Kendra.

  4. Yes, it is so wonderful to experience the reading of God's Word with your child. I have no children of my own, but I have many nephews and nieces. I wrote a post about one of them and his special book ( children's Bible stories) in my sister's blogspot: Beneath the Ivy Wreath.

  5. How wonderful for you. I love homeschooling and seeing the joy on each child's face when they *get* something. Wouldn't trade it for the world!

I noticed that one of your favorite blogs was Blog and Mablog. Me, too!

  6. Bluemountainmama, I just have to say that kindergarten is a wonderful time to give homeschooling a 'trial year.' And, I really love the simple resource of amblesideonline.org

Tracy, it's always nice to meet another Doug fan :)
