The Sabbath

My husband and I have recently been faced with a number of articles about celebrating the Sabbath and truly honoring the fourth commandment. While we do honor many holidays in our home, the Sabbath is the main holiday that the Lord set in place in scripture. It is a day to rest and enjoy him, to really enter into his goodness. Well, here's a beautiful new website to help us all instill the traditions of celebrating the Sabbath in our homes.

The menus and information on the site can be a bit overwhelming at first. I think that it will take time, maybe even generations before we get into a rhythym of true celebration weekly. I also think that celebrating can vary a bit from family to family. But, it certainly sounds nice, and I appreciate the work and suggestions that have gone into the website. I think that we'll make it our goal to make this happen once a month, and go from there. I'd love to hear about any special ways you and your family celebrate the Sabbath.

  1. I have been pondering this site, and am alternately overwhelmed and inspired. My Sweet Husband observes that after preparing such a meal one would need a Sabbath rest!

  2. I agree. If cooking meals like this hasn't ever been a part of your kitchen repetoire, then this would be a tough place to start. But, I do think that there is something sweet about staying home on a Saturday evening and enjoying an extra-nice meal together as a way to enter the Sabbath. Extra-nice can mean a lot of things depending on what each family is used to. Perhaps the main course plus two or three sides, instead of ten!
I also like the idea of thinking through Sunday meals before Sunday comes around so that we can rest a little more on that day.
This would definately be a place where the help of all the little hands in the home should come together. "Child #1, you rinse the lettuce, child #2, you set the table" and so on.

  3. Thank you for this site!
I look forward to perusing it.
I have been convicted this year to *really* honor the Sabbath, and treat it as a real day of rest.

I found you via Pleasant View Schoolhouse. I really like what you have to say!
